FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WILL IT BE DUSTY?
Yes, the demolition process will be dusty. We do have dust limiting equipment, but it is safe to assume that with floor removal, especially tiles, there will be a lot of dust. However, when we grind your floor there is a vacuum is connected to the grinder, so you will be very surprised at the end result. See our "after" pictures on the website.

"MY TILES CONTINUE FROM THE HALLWAY INTO THE LAUNDRY ROOM, BUT I WANT THOSE TO REMAIN.
No problem! We can make a cut at the doorway and remove the tiles up to this point. See gallery pictures.

DO I NEED TO EMPTY MY CUPBOARDS?
Yes if there are tiles to be removed from the floor inside the cupboard, such as a corner panty in a kitchen. If you do not have any tiles or flooring inside any cupboards then tape the joins with masking tape to limit the dust finding its way in.

DO I NEED TO EMPTY MY CUPBOARDS?
Yes if there are tiles to be removed inside the cupboard, such as a corner panty in a kitchen. If you do not have any tiles or flooring inside the cupboard that you want removed, we have no reason to open the cupboard door. In this case we suggest taping the joins with masking tape to limit the dust finding its way into the cupboard.

WILL DUST DAMAGE MY APPLIANCES OR FURNITURE?
We utilize "dust limiting" equipment where possible, however, it is good practice to remove these from the immediate work area. Or you may choose to cover with plastic. But it is recommended that you get everything as far away from the work area as possible

DO YOU REMOVE RUBBISH?
Yes, this is included in your quoted price.

DO I NEED TO REMOVE FURNISHINGS OR APPLIANCES?
Yes, we need the work area to be completely clear. This would include relocating any furniture, appliances, pictures, etc. Make sure that there is adequate room for us to move throughout the property.

DO I HAVE WINDOWS AND DOORS CLOSED OR OPEN?
Leave windows and doors open or at least unlocked. We like to have all external windows and doors open to assist in ventilation and to help in providing a dust removal draft. All internal doors can be closed to minimize the spread of dust, except where there is an evaporative air conditioner. Please refer to "STRIPPING TIPS" section, number 13.

WILL IT BE NOISY?
Yes, it will be a noisy process. It's best to advise your neighbours when this work will be taking place. It is advisable to temporarily relocate any pets as the noise can frighten them.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE AND WHEN CAN YOU DO IT?
As demolition contractors, who do this work daily, we can generally give you an approximate indication of the time involved to perform each task. We are able to complete 98% of our jobs in one day.

WILL THE FLOOR BE SMOOTH?
The finish of the floor will be dictated by the quality of the sub-flooring. But in most cases, the answer is" yes". But not for bathrooms where a screed is removed. See bathroom pictures in Gallery.

CAN YOU REMOVE TILES FROM WALLS?
Absolutely! In some cases render may come off with the tiles, but this is unavoidable and the tiler will generally need to patch some of the render afterwards.

SHOULD I LAY MY NEW FLOOR COVERINGS OVER THE TOP OF THE CURRENT FLOOR COVERINGS?
Most professional floor layers will not lay over existing flooring due to potential problems which can be, height transitions to other floor coverings, shaving of doors to accommodate the new floor, movement of original floor coverings, cracks or repairs. Warranties will usually not be supplied due to unknown workmanship on original layer of floor. In the past, we have seen customers save money by laying over existing flooring only to have a problem arise. They then hire us to remove both the previous floor plus the new layer. This costs double what it would have if we'd been hired to do the work right in the first place.

CAN THE SUB-FLOOR BE DAMAGED?
Due to the explosive nature of jackhammers and grinders, the timber flooring or slab underneath (the sub-floor) can be damaged, though this is not a commonplace. All care is taken and with our extensive experience, this possibility is greatly minimized.

WILL THE PRICE CHANGE?
A firm quote is given in most cases. However, if you inaccurately measure the area, or the floor is on a biscuit/screed base, or a double layer of floor coverings is found upon commencement of work, then small additional charges will apply.

DO I HAVE TO DISCONNECT MY WATER?
Not for bathroom strip outs including vanities and baths. We can do this with your water connected. For kitchen strip outs it's best to get a plumber to disconnect and weld up the water pipes. And this applies to the gas pipes connected to the stove, if yours is gas.

WHAT IF THERE IS A SECOND LAYER OF TILES?
While it is uncommon to come across tile on tile, an additional charge applies for the second layer. This is because of the extra labour required to remove the floor coverings as well as the additional rubbish removal costs.

DO TILES COME UP EASILY?
We can sometimes make the process look "easy", however, this is due to our experience, extensive range of equipment and specialized techniques.

DO YOU LAY FLOOR COVERINGS?
Whilst we do not specifically lay floor coverings, our experience in the industry has allowed us to deal with professional layers and suppliers which we would be happy to refer you to.
